QUEENSTOWN. Fascinating mining town. Queenstown is the largest town on the west coast and is the home of the Mt Lyell Mining and the railway company. The west coast of Tasmania is in the path of the roaring 40's, so the weather conditions can change quiet dramatically. Queenstown's hills are covered by little more than dust theses day's. this is due to the vegetation being killed off by large amounts of pollution given from the mines when they were at force. The mine's produced the main income for the town. Whilst in Queenstown you can view the depths of an open cut mine. Queenstown offers great trout fishing in surrounding lakes and several wilderness walks with in close proximity. *The Galley Museum * Lake Margaret PowerStation. *Spion Kof lookout. *Wall in the wilderness at Derwent Bridge . Take care on the roads especially between Derwent bridge and Queenstown. There is a lot of bends and corners which are known as the 99 bends which you will figure out why. |
