RICHMOND . COAL RIVER VALLEY .

Richmond is a beautiful historic town situated only 15 minutes from the Hobart city. Richmond was once the key military post and a convict station. It was the second largest penal colony of that to Port Arthur . You really have to stop and stroll around the town and view the number of historic buildings, which even people who have no interest in will find fascinating. You can sense the treacherous past and spirits as you stroll around the town. The Richmond bridge is the oldest bridge in Australia and was once the key portal in transport from Hobart to Port Arthur . Richmond is also an excellent spot to stop for lunch or even a picnic by the coal river. With many options such as a great bakery, pub with great counter meals, cafes, tea rooms, take a ways and of course the lolly shop.

Leading into Richmond , along the Coal River Valley , there are a number of fantastic vineyards most comprising of great restaurants, most with magnificent views that you wouldn't experience with your every day restaurant.
